Bad Staffelstein

New promenade for Bad Staffelstein

An attractive route between the railway station and the old town.

As part of the Bavarian urban development funding programme, Bahnhofsstraße in Bad Staffelstein has been redesigned as an accessible, traffic-calmed thoroughfare that sustainably enhances tourism and the quality of the urban environment. Alongside wide pavements, green spaces and modern lighting features, high-quality fixtures from Thieme characterise the townscape: utility bollards provide flexible electricity and water connections, barrier posts safely demarcate the street space for pedestrians, and functional litter bins blend harmoniously into the modern design.

Background and objectives of the redesign

Bahnhofsstraße in Bad Staffelstein is regarded as a key thoroughfare linking the old town, the market square, the railway station and the Obermain Therme. The aim of the redevelopment was to enhance the appeal of this thoroughfare and, in doing so, to improve the usability of the public space. Today, Bahnhofsstraße is an attractive promenade offering visitors a high quality of stay. The public space has been enhanced through high-quality design featuring wide pavements, modern lighting, new green spaces and newly created leisure areas. At the same time, accessible routes and traffic-calming measures ensure greater safety and comfort for pedestrians.

Integration into urban development funding and added value for the city

The phased redevelopment also reflects one of the guiding principles of Bavaria’s urban development funding programme, which focuses on the enhancement and revitalisation of areas surrounding railway stations, barrier-free access, and the close integration of transport, public spaces and urban life. Bahnhofstraße thus not only connects the key hubs of Bad Staffelstein’s town centre, but also sustainably boosts tourism and enhances the quality of the urban environment. Visitors can experience a lively, welcoming town centre as soon as they arrive.

Technical infrastructure provided by utility bollards

To emphasise the redesign and complement it with suitable street furniture, the city opted for a range of products from Thieme. The Pirmasens-type utility bollards were installed; these impress with their high-quality steel construction, robust design and versatile technical features. They enable a flexible yet safe supply of electricity and water in urban areas, whilst their design language allows them to blend discreetly into the overall appearance of the urban landscape. The design concept is complemented by the ‘Primasens’ utility bollards, which, with their clear structure and understated design, enhance inner-city areas not only functionally but also decoratively. Powder-coated to RAL or DB colour charts, they can be custom-made to suit any requirement. They are secured by bolting onto concrete foundations using an internal flange. Internal LED lighting is also available.

Barriers and waste bins for organising spaces

When it comes to barrier and guidance elements, the Pirmasens-type post – made of steel, hot-dip galvanised and colour-coated according to the RAL or DB colour chart – proves to be a reliable choice. The various designs – fixed, tiltable or as sign and railing posts – highlight their versatility. They organise the street space in an unobtrusive manner, enhance road safety and, through their use, create clearly defined areas for pedestrians to linger and move about. The range is rounded off by the Series 710 litter bin. With its robust construction, minimalist design, durable hot-dip galvanised sheet steel and modern styling, it meets both the functional and aesthetic requirements of public spaces. It is available as a free-standing litter bin or with post mounting and a triangular key. Emptying is carried out via a hot-dip galvanised inner bin. It is also available with a cigarette disposal chute and in various colour finishes according to the RAL and DB colour charts.

Inner-city islands - ventilation cover as seating and planter

Architects, landscape architects and property owners need to equip supply and exhaust air systems, for example in underground car parks, with covers and at the same time ensure a visually appealing design. With their simple and elegantly functional design, Thieme GmbH ventilation covers are an ideal and universally suitable solution for this, allowing the focus of attention to remain on the appearance of the surroundings. We work with you to develop customised solutions for individual seating elements or planters. In Münster, Westphalia, for example, organically shaped above-ground ventilation outlets were created for the ventilation of an underground car park, which function as seating, planters and supply units with integrated water connections.
